During the design phase of this commission, my client was looking for a cabinet inspired by antique plan drawers. One of the requirements was to add large castor wheels to allow him to move the unit around the room. Due to the mobility of the unit, I wanted to ensure that the only timber movement was related to the depth. The frame is locked together with full length sliding dovetails and braced further with the integration of handles on each corner. Each drawer is made from birdseye blackwood and silky oak, using handcut dovetails on the front and back. The rest of the unit is made with salvaged Otways blackwood, using bookmatched slabs to create grain symmetry.
