Shaquel Crowe, Blackwood Bar (Student Awards 2017)
This major project was a bar made from Tasmanian blackwood that featured floating panels as the main feature. This was a difficult project to manage, due to the size of the project and the significant amount of calculations required to work out in order to ensure all components went together. The carcase frame consists of veneered MDF that has been joined using a combination of through housing and rebate joints. The many framed panels that make up the exterior of the project were made using a router set of three cutters. Domino joints were used in the top of the bar and mitre joints were used on the plinth.
