Steve McKenna, Black Walnut Toddler Kitchen Stool (WORLD 2021)

Loosely modeled after Wharton Esherick's three-step library stool, this two-step stool was made for my grandson. The proud dovetails on the outside edge give easy notice as to the edge of the stool. The steps join the handrail column with shouldered bridle joints (Sam Maloof chair joint). The hickory spine in the bent laminated column ends by spreading into stabilizing support for the stool. The risers are cutout where the grain went around knots to eliminate short grain weakness. There are 1/2" nylon pads inset in each leg so it will slide easily
