The couch is a mashup of 2 makers whom I admire greatly. The influence of Sam Maloof's chair style is somewhat obvious. I employed George Nakashima's conoid chair leg to support the middle of the couch to keep the middle front open. Differently, the shaped crest rail runs over the top of the 4 legs. The upholstered seat employs 6 way tied coil springs, burlap covering, 2 layers of foam, muslin and then upholstery fabric. The black walnut is finished with Sam Maloof's signature mix- urethane, tung oil, and boiled linseed oil.
