Lana Kagan, Bench No. 5 (STUDENT 2021)
This piece was made during the “drawer making” component at the Sturt School for Wood. The bench seat serves as a warm and sturdy welcome where you can take off your shoes and dump the things that have been weighing you down. It aids as a transition space between work and recovery. Each ‘arm’ protrudes from the seat to a slightly different height. Beyond providing some visual interest and to play with the viewer’s sense of perspective, it provides function as a lower back support or arm rest. The drawer is intentionally inconspicuous, hiding the random junk that can’t find a home elsewhere. Made form American Oak with Maple drawer details. 1600 (w) x 660 (h) x 310 (d).
