"Beast 2023" is a metaphor for my creative process as a woodworker and designer, six years after I started working with solid wood. The project discusses the impossibility of control during creative processes, and the vitality that objects gain by distancing themselves from the initial illustration. As a metaphor of this power, the bench is a beast with two heads, going in opposite directions without letting itself be arrested. The bench was made in two species of brazilian hardwood: jequitibá rosa (cariniana legalis) and muiracatiara (astronium lecointei ducke). Its main body was handcrafted in jequitibá rosa, colored in indigo blue and finished with a mix of tung oil and copal varnish. The wood clamp was made with a brass spindle and muiracatiara hardwood finished with shellac. Most of bench was made with a traditional woodworking process, using mortise and tenon joints and round floating tenons with 25 millimeters in diameter to attach the legs to the body. Otherwise, horns were made using a cnc router.
