Leo Primus, Bated Breath (Art & Accessories)
A 1:1 scale in the round carving of an American kestrel. The kestrel is carved in mahogany with the gauntlet carved in northern silky oak both salvaged from a skip bin on a demolition site. Negative space is achieved with separation between the wing primaries and tail feathers with deep lines in the upper wing and head capturing accentuating the prominent features for which raptors are renowned. The stand is made from laminated offcuts of Tasmanian blackwood also salvaged from a construction site. The carving is finished with Tru-Oil and 0000 steel wool used to temper the gloss levels providing contrast in the finish.
