This At Dusk television console is a special piece made for my first home. The design was inspired by the simplicity of traditional consoles that are mostly just functional - so I kept the carcass a classic rectangular shape. More time was spent on the details as I generally do not watch the television, but still wanted to have something to look at while the family enjoyed their tv time. Solid cherry ebonised with iron acetate solution, featuring sliding doors with book-matched exotic ziricote veneer panels. Handles for the sliding doors were hand carved into a semi-circle to represent the quarter moon as a nod to my ‘At Dusk’ series, and features an abalone shell accent to break the dark silhouette of the entire piece. For function - to the left we have a full height box-shaped storage area to store stackables, while on the right we have an adjustable shelf to store items that cannot be stacked and to act as a separator for better organisation. The back features a frame and panel construction for strength and stability, and the carcass is sitting on a mitred walnut base.
