Matthew McLaren, Ash Cabinet (Student)
Solid ash cabinet highlighting the timber’s natural characteristics. Cut from the same boards, the mitred corners accentuate the grain which flows continuously side-to-side through the top. The frame and panel construction of the rear allows it to match the sides. Recessed door handles and the pull incorporated into the drawer front keep hardware to a minimum. The drawer base, made of laminated oak, beech and rimu pieces, adds a surprise splash of colour and texture to the inside The cabinet sits atop a compound mitred base; subtle bevels and tapers lightening the footprint. Finished in satin Osmo giving a hard-wearing finish that is VOC-free, food, animal and plant safe. Dimensions: 1000(h) x 350(w) x 350mm(d) School: UCOL, Palmerston North, NZ Teacher: Rowan Dicks
