Wayne Quick, Art Deco Styled Chess Board (Bowls & Boxes)
Designed with a reversible top so it can be hung on the wall when not in use, to save space. The internal, piece holding, baize-lined, triangles remove so setting up the board is convenient. The reversible top is held secure with hidden magnets and the box is joined with the impossible dovetail join, accentuated with black veneer. Contrasting black and white timber is made with silver ash and a beautiful, incredibly rare, piece of 10,000 year old red bloodwood, found 17 metres deep in a sand mine in Queensland, naturally coloured black all the way through. The design on the front is also subtly inlayed into the chess board side by changing the direction of the grain. Each piece is competition weighted, and there's an extra queen which fits over a pawn if the player earns a second queen.
