Alice Wilson, American Walnut Jewellery Box (Student)
This is an originally designed jewellery box made with primarily American walnut. Hand cut marquetry runs along the right side of the box and flows on to the lid. A sand shading technique was applied to create greater depth. On top of the lid is perched a hand carved butterfly out of walnut and curly maple. An inlay stripe of curly maple runs around the box creating a seamless incorporation on the bottom secret compartment which is opened be pressing one of the butterfly's antennas down on a hand crafted pressure plate. The box has a tray on top with a removable ring box, three drawers with dovetails that run along handmade brass runners. Killara High School, teacher Brendon Francis
