This piece was inspired by a uniquely expressive cypress tree on North Harbor Drive in Fort Bragg, California. Trees can take incredibly elegant shapes in nature and the geometric forms that we impose on wood often stand in contrast to the beauty that occurs naturally. I hope that this cabinet highlights this contrast and reminds the viewer of the tree’s life prior to taking its second form as a piece of furniture. The cypress tree that inspired this piece is still standing and is best viewed from the Noyo River Bridge. cherry, maple, manzanita
