Barung Landcare has announced a new category for the annual Sunshine Coast Wootha Prize which features at the Maleny Expo in Queensland – this year 4–6 May, 2024.

‘Evolve acknowledges newer craftspeople and seasoned individuals who have dedicated a lifetime to tinkering in sheds or collaborating within woodworking groups, and alleviates the pressure of competing against recognised professionals. The category is open as far as theme goes and carries a $1000 award.

The idea to make the competition more accessible to woodworkers who wish to ‘lean into their creative edge by showcasing their work, no matter what level they are at’.

There are three other categories – Furniture, Sculpture and Tiny Treasures – and this year all are ‘open themed’, meaning there’s no limit as far as design, subject matter or style goes.

Evolve is a stand-alone prize category however, and works submitted will not be in the running for the other prize categories.

Entries close 22 March, 2024.

The Maleny Wood Expo is an initiative of Barung Landcare and this year the event celebrates its 25th.
