Queensland’s Boonah Show took place on the weekend of May 27–28. Organised by Ross and Sandy Gilbert, the show has grown from year to year. This year beef cattle were paraded, 490 dogs  judged, and displays of various kinds, including woodwork were featured.

The woodwork section for 2016 attracted 45 entrants who displayed 135 pieces of work’, said Chief Steward Ross Gilbert. Bevan Eggert and Graeme Correll both made clocks that each had all-wood gears and components. In addition to intarsia work, toys featured large, including a cane-harvesting toy also by Bevan Eggert, and a mobile crane by Ross Gilbert. There were beautifully made and finished bandsaw and jewellery boxes, and a spectacular ‘water feature’ by Peter Holmes.

The winner of the Open Section was a wooden rocking horse made by Errol Lankowski. The winner of the Open Toy section was Grader by Len Muller.

Entries were received from Nambour, Toowoomba, Beenleigh, Tamborine Mountain and Ipswich and all throughout the Scenic Rim of which Boonah is part. For more information about next year’s Boonah Show contact Ross Gilbert on 07 5463 4110 or email r.sgilbert@bigpond.com
