Since 1977, from its Toowoomba, Qld workrooms, David Boucher's team has been producing furniture and art objects for an elite global clientele.
Boucher & Co's bespoke furniture draws heavily on inspiration from the Art Deco period and features that style's signature materials, in particular Macassar ebony and shagreen* in many of its designs.
Now the company has a prestigious partnership with luxury motor car marque Rolls-Royce, the first such collaboration with an Australian firm.
'Most Rolls-Royce owners customise their cars through its bespoke program', explained David, 'you don't just go along and pick one and say I'll have one of those'. Customers now have the option of requesting a Boucher & Co interior that will be designed and made for them in accordance with their tastes and desired themes.
The connection between the two companies developed last year when Rolls-Royce launched their annual limited edition model in Sydney. Boucher & Co was called upon to mount an accompanying display of its own luxury Art Deco furniture. Rolls-Royce were so impressed with Boucher & Co's creativity and quality work that the collaboration developed from there.
David Boucher was profiled in Australian Wood Review issue 14 in 1997 and featured on the cover.
Boucher & Co have just launched a new website where more examples of their work can be seen.
* Shagreen results when stingray hide is sanded. It has a history of high end usage dating back to ancient Egyptian times and is synonymous with the Art Deco movement. The hide used by Boucher & Co is sustainably sourced from South Asia and South East Asia as a by-product of a food farming practice.
