Wood bending techniques open up a world of possibilities for woodworkers. In January 2025, New Zealand’s Centre for Fine Woodworking is offering a six-week residency led by two masters of the craft, Yuri Kobayashi (USA) and David Haig (NZ). The program will focus on refining designs and developing techniques rather than creating finished pieces of work.

Yuri and David will be available in the morning sessions with afternoons being self-directed. They will work on a collaborative piece when not teaching, but will incorporate demonstrations and discussions throughout the program, as well as offering one-to-one consultation with each student. Resident senior tutor Lou Fuller will also be available to support residents’ projects.

The program is open to emerging and established furniture makers, woodworkers and former CFW students who have the appropriate level of skill and experience.

The closing date for applications is 1 August 2024. Learn more here.
