Holding Time is the title of a solo exhibition of work by Hape Kiddle that’s set to open in a few days time at Bungendore Wood Works Gallery, NSW. Well known designer maker Evan Dunstone will introduce the exhibition at the 6:30pm opening on December 15.
Hape is known for the lyricism of his sculptural works, and also his words:
Here
There is stillness
And quiet
In this grain
Is the history of the world
In my hands is kinship
I am holding time..
Six months in the making, Holding Time is a body of work that expresses Hape Kiddle’s reverence for the material and the natural environment, and at the same time it’s a reflection on the human condition. ‘We are not what we were. Not the person we were ten years ago, not even yesterday. Nothing that grows can ever be the same again. So be gentle, to ourselves... and others.’
‘I have a fascination with seedpods and seashells. These exquisite chambers of life, holding, hiding, waiting. Beauty beyond anything I could ever create.’ Photo: Sarah Brown
Holding Time opens December 15, 2023 at Bungendore Wood Works Gallery, Kings Hwy, Bungendore, NSW and runs until the end of February, 2024.
