Hall Stand
Jarrah
850mm high x 310mm deep x 1165mm wide
This two drawer hall stand features the deep red tones of Western Australian jarrah. The table top consists of breadboard ends, featuring traditional floating mortise and tenon joinery with vertical dowel pins that allow for seasonal wood movement. Inner rebates support and house a distinctive frosted glass panel
Each leg has a vertical twin flute profile, formed using a small trimmer router with guide. Rear and side aprons are assembled to the legs using mortise and tenon joinery, through a combination of hand tools and power machinery that includes the mortise drill and bandsaw. The top rail connects to each leg using a lapped dovetail, meticulously shaped and fitted using only hand tools.
Both drawers include blind dovetail sets, constructed with a portable router and dovetail jig. Also included is a visually contrasting Tasmanian oak veneer bottom housed in a dado groove. The drawer dividers, runners and kickers are fixed in place with screws. Z-brackets secure the table top to the carcase, again allowing for seasonal timber movement. Several coats of clear satin spray finish completes the project.
