Graduating honours student Chelsea Lemon, has been constructing intricate parquetry panels which she has developed into a body of work. “My work has been designed through examining plant surfaces and forms.” Lemon said. “By incorporating patterns derived from nature into furniture, I am able to connect people to my work visually and through interaction. It is also a great way to bring nature into the home.”

First year students have created tables using reclaimed timber generously donated by local timber recycling
company Thor’s Hammer.

Acting head of workshop, Niklavs Rubenis, says the work undertaken throughout the year is about more
than just objects. “Although what we might teach is about furniture, largely, I don’t think it is really about
furniture. It’s about fostering transferable thinking, research, and the necessary craft and design skills that
can be used as tools to navigate and respond to the world. ...The ultimate goal is to offer a considered and
meaningful contribution to material culture."

The following weekend, November 20 – 22, the students will also exhibit at CRAFTED '15. This will take place at Nishi Grand Stair , Nishi Building, NewActon ACT as part of the DESIGNCanberra Festival.
