Here’s an interesting video that shows a Japanese maker’s method for joining legs directly to a tabletop via sliding tenon joinery.
Yoake is a furniture maker who uses traditional methods in his woodland workshop which is located in the mountainous region of Yame, Fukuoka Prefecture. According to the video description, the technique he uses is suitsuki-zan, “a Japanese woodworking technique that prevents wood from warping through precision sliding tenon joinery”.
