Video: making a 'trying' handplane
Dave Stanton was a commended Maker of the Year 2020 entrant whose entry was the remarkable handplane shown on our website at this link. He calls it a ‘trying’ plane due to the length of its sole and made it from padauk, rock maple, redgum and Brazilian bloodwood. His entry included a jointer fence.
Dave has also released a video on his popular YouTube channel which captures some of processes involved in the making of the plane. There’s lots to learn watching this video, and you may just find yourself a little inspired to make your own handplane.
