For my Industrial Technology major project I manufactured an hourglass ‘ladies waist’ tallboy. This was designed to be an entirely unique and ergonomic piece of fine furniture that would ideally become a family heirloom. I have contrasted two Australian native timbers, combining the beauty of Huon pine with the lightweight of Australian red cedar. Putting a contemporary twist on classic styling, I juxtaposed the tallboy’s four traditional Philadelphia ball and claw feet – which I carved myself – with the avant-garde veneered curved sides. To emphasise the artistic value I also included an inlay in the top to highlight the curved sides.
