Coolabah burl, 380mm dia

The coolabah burl platter was completed to accentuate the natural grain and colour of the timber so it would be an aesthetically pleasing piece within my dining area. This platter was turned by using a faceplate, with a wooden faceplate attached with masking tape. The chisels used were a bowl gouge, a detail gouge and a scraper. It was then sanded and coated with Organoil Hard Burnishing Oil. This piece will be the major feature on my new dining table, fulfilling its purpose.

This bowl is designed to suit my newly renovated kitchen and dining area, specifically used as a large fruit bowl. This bowl was attached to a lathe by a screw chuck. The chisels used throughout removing the bowl were a bowl gouge and a detail gouge. It was sanded using and electric drill with sand paper 180–400 grit. This was varnished with Stylewood and coated with Triple-E (EEE). The banksia rim was made by segmenting.
