Intermediate to advanced woodworkers will enjoy the challenge of creating fully functional lacks from the nine plans supplied in this book.

This is literally a step-by-step publication that is accompanied by detailed sketches and some photos. It’s a methodical presentation that should guarantee results, provided the details and measurments (imperial) are carefully observed.

The history of locks goes back some 4000 years according to the author, who developed his interest for making things as a child during the Depression in the 1930s. The locks detailed in the book are of his own design and all parts, including the keys, are made from wood.

There are various padlocks, some with keys, some with combinations, a Chinese lock, a Screw Key Lock and a Giant Antique Lever Lock. The locks are functional but ornamental as well and present a unique and unusual item for woodworkers to make.

We have one copy to give away. Just email a good reason why you would like to make wooden locks to competitions@woodreview.com.au  Please note: “correct” entries also include full name and address of sender. See here for terms and conditions.
