Telecaster Electric Guitar

990mm l x 325 w x 75mm h

American white ash, maple, rosewood

For my HSC Major for Industrial Technology I had decided to build a fully functional electric guitar, one that I can sit down and jam on and also be able to perform on stage with.

This electric guitar design is of a traditional Fender Telecaster which plays with a deep rich tone widely favoured and used in the country music industry. The natural character of the timbers displayed through the clear finish is achieved to complement the country theme.

The timber used for the body is American white ash, the neck is maple and the finger board is rosewood. The shape of the design was accomplished through the constructing and the shaping of a plywood template, the templates were used as a guide to shape the body and neck using a router. I manufactured jigs to cut and machine different components, such as the trench for the truss rod and the curve on the peg head. Preparation to the surface to the body and the neck I used 1200 grit wet and dry, and then applied two coats of sanding sealer. For the finish I sprayed on Estapol polyethylene gloss. Hydrate fingerboard conditioner was used for the fingerboard.
