The classic jarrah timber executive desk is finished with a green leather insert in the top of the desk. The design is based on another executive desk that was seen during our Yr11 industry study tour to Uneke Furniture in Fyshwick Canberra. The desk has been constructed for structural integrity using timber joints such as raised panels for the exterior, dovetails for the draws while mitre joints and rebates are incorporated in the desk top and kickboards on base of two desk towers. My intention was to bring some creativity and originality into the design, in an attempt to produce a product which was not only a fully functioning desk, but also an aesthetically pleasing piece of furniture for our study at home. The size of the desk (L1500mm W750mm H750mm) allowed me to use a wide range of hand tools, power tools and machinery to develop my timber skills and techniques.
