Balancing Chair, Drawers & Cupboards
Tasmanian oak and western red cedar, recycled Science Department shelving
Standard chair dimensions, approx: 700 h x 400 x 450mm wide.
The aim was to produce a functional object within the theme of ‘camouflage’. I balance chairs in the local ‘Slipstream Circus’ so I wanted to produce a piece of furniture with a circus twist. The square shape of the chairs enable them to balance on top of each just like circus chairs. The frames of the chairs were biscuit joined and the tops glued and screwed. The drawers were assembled using housing joins. I decorated the chair tops with patterns similar to our circus equipment.
